Hi all, has anyone read the Stephanie Plum series from Janet Evanovich?

Our neighbor introduced me to them, and they are rather funny! I can't remember the last time I read a series where I bust up laughing in the book. Lol!

I'm on book 4.

She's an okay author. Yes, her books are pretty funny, but it takes some time to get to those funny and interesting parts, and that's where she loses me.

I love the Stephanie Plum series. I'm surprised you haven't heard of them before this. I started the series a few years ago and thought I had come late to it. I read the first four back to back and then needed a break from the silliness. From that point on I've read one at a time when I am in the mood for something silly and light. One thing you'll find is that she keeps repeating things. For example, in almost every book, Stephanie either wrecks, blows up, or in some other way destroys her car. Then Ranger always comes to her rescue and just gives her another car to use. I really like Ranger.

I read the first one five years ago and just haven't gotten around to reading the rest. It was read by Lori Petty I believe. It was ok but not one of my favorites. Interestingly enough they've been talking about making a movie of the first book for at least the past fifteen years. They were talking about Reese Witherspoon as Stephanie.

I think they are finally in the process of making that movie. I think the actr```ess who will play Stephanie is Heidi something, but I can't remember her last name. Personally, I doubt if the movie will be any good. The series is now 17 books long, and making a movie of just one story is silly.

I tend to agree. Because Hollywood can't get anything right generally when they tackle a book. Once in a great while someone comes acceptably close but generally speaking they can't let a good story stand on its own merits.

I like the Stephanie Plum series. The books are all basically the same, but they still crack me up. I can't think of another series that has so consistently made me bust out laughing. Lula is hilarious. It's silly fluff reading, but who doesn't need a little of that every now and then?

Update! I'm now in book 10, and the movie is offically out!

We have plans to see it on Saturday. Groupon is doing a special on tickets. So far the trailors look funny, fingers crossed the movie is fun. :)

I read the first 7-8 books in the series, and just got tired of the repetition.

I'd love to hear what you thought of the movie. My local paper gave it a horrible review. Among other things they said the acting was bad, the casting was bad, and there was no chemistry between the actress playing Stephanie and either of her male co-stars.

That wouldn't surprise me. That's Hollywood for you.

I love this series. a friend introduced it to me a few years ago. I want to see the movie but doubt it will be as good as the books. Movies hardly ever are.

get your rocks ready people. you may want to throw them at me. i don't like janet evanovitch. her books are shallow and have gratuitous bad language. i'm not a prude, but it is ridiculously present in the ones i've seen. also her characterization isn't that great and they just didn't engage me.
